Creegan Family History

                        Information from the 1920 census:

*      George (54) and Bessie (53) Edmonds are still living at 423 Queen Street with their 2 sons Charles B. (22) and John C. (18) and their daughter Sarah E. (16).

*      Harry C. Padgett (38) and Catherine Padgett nee Reinhardt (33) are living at 311 North Pitt Street with their sons Clarence (15), Bernard (13) and Leonard (11). In 3 years, Bernard (“Billie”) would join the Alexandria Fire Department in 1923 and would ultimately be the Chief.

*      Mary Ida Creegan (58) is living at 211 South Royal. [Note: Michael died in 1915]. Rose is also there with her husband William Champion.

*      Ruth Creegan, daughter of William J. Creegan, is living with her mother, and Hannah has re-married to Delbert Herder. They are living at 1415 Princess Street.

*     Mary Catherine (Duffey) Nee Creegan (Daughter of Michael Creegan) has re-married to Edward B. Wayson and they are living with their family at 540 4th Street SE, Washington DC.

*      Bernard P. McCann, son of Michael McCann, is living in Washington DC with his family.

McCann,    Bernard P. (27)

                   Maurine (24), wife

                   Richard A. (3 9/12)

                   Virginia (1)

Maurine’s mother, Sally Cochran, is also living there.

*      Ellen Simonton nee McCann is living in Arlington, VA with her husband Leo E. Simonton and two children – Troxell and Ruth. Leo’s nephew, Joseph, is also living there. The clincher for this is that Minnie McCann (20), Ellen’s sister, is living with them. Ellen is going by “Nellie” which caused a little confusion. There is another Ellen (K.) Simonton living in DC and I had previously and erroneously reported her as the grand-daughter of Bernard McCann – that was incorrect. However, I wonder if she is related to Leo and that prompted Ellen to go by Nellie to avoid confusion.

*     The McCanns and Shlesingers are still living at 4 ½ St SW in DC (I believe the residence is no longer there as I-275 appears to cut through that location). Bernard McCann passed in 1914.  Mamie died in Dec 1910.

*     Belle McCann, widow of Thomas McCann (Son of John McCann) is still living in Webb City, Missouri with her son Bernard. Tom died on April 14, 1911. Tom’s death certificate can be viewed in the McCann Concise History.
